The FONSTI Project

Developing a National Network of STI Excellence as a Foundry for Accelerated Transformative STI Human Capital Development

Why a National Foundry for STI?

Uganda has made a deliberate revolutionary decision to take the path of Science and Technology Innovation (STI)–driven industrial value chain development. A national STI Secretariat has been established, and FONSTI was conceived to contribute to that agenda by marshalling fragmented STI human capacity and infrastructure in the public and private sectors.

Hosted at Makerere University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB) and led by Principal Investigator Dr. Claire M. Mugasa, the project ran from June 2022 to April 2024 and built a functional national mechanism for sustainable STI human capital development and utilisation
