Welcome to FONSTI

In line with the new STI aspirations of Uganda, consistent with individual STI institutional strategies, and after several consultations, several STIEs participating in the STI-OP research and granting framework, resolved to establish a Foundry Network for STI excellence; named FONSTI. This would pave way for broader and collaborative engagement in national development affairs in support of government Vision 2040 and Africa agenda 2063. Focusing on neat development has become paramount in order to fulfil the 21st century collective vision of a global economic development that must be sustainable and just to all forms of life, climate and entire ecosystem of the earth (planetary health).

The establishment of the FONSTI is therefore a move in this direction and will provide a coordinated mechanism for re-aligning STIEs as a network foundry for STI to meet government, national and continental needs. It will help to tackle these and many more emerging development challenges, with STIEs as key active and systematic players.

The pioneers driving the FONSTI initiative include STIEs among Universities, the community, public and private sectors of society. There are several international Universities and partners in support of this drive.

Arising from their role of coordinating the STI-OP program on establishing an STI network of excellence as a foundry for STI and STI human capital, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (COVAB) at Makerere University has been coordinating the development of FONSTI as a more inclusive partnership engagement, implementation and management framework.
